There were circumstances preventing us from doing the things we wanted to do because in a small community there were all of 1096, we had to watch our step.faloing indismay with the outdated way of life was unheard of.
so, to accomodate the majority we complied with the wishes of the man in charge which was a well known farmer commonly known as the god from the easteren part of the polder. he was a bastard to summ it up quickly. Had everyone who worked for him by the short hairs from early morning til evening in the end though he lost his farm and ended inthe poor house, while the workers whohad slaved for him
were getting a pension.
We alwent our own seperate way after thewar was over. my sister got married to the wrong guy, My brother was married to the wrong woman and i went 0n my merryway to canada. We calle one another every ince in a while but never got to know the kics , she had 5 of them plus a host of grand children and even 4 great grand children. it to bad she could not have stayed a little while longer with us. now with my beother in the hospital like a vegetable and my sister gone there is not much of a family left in the original country.Its suddenly all here in Canada what counts

Yes, she was my only sister
small when she was born,did'nt grow much until she reached puberty.and then she was away and running.
mother angry about her staying out til all hours Itwas past 23:00 and time for all to go to sleep.Dad had to get up at 4:00 A.M. and motherwas right there to make him breakfast.
we were still going to school for us it was 7:oo A.M. and there she was calling every one seperately. my sister was always the first to get out of bed while I was the last one to openmy eyes and quickly cloe them again. to no avail of course mother would not give up until we stood beside the bed reaching forour clothes which she had hung over the chair. you get ready now and come down to eat your breakfast. after ward itwas the books and off we went together, because we had to the youngest onewhowas always ready fr another edventure close to a ditch where he could drown again.once close to the school we separated and each took up his own clubof friends, played til the bell called us inside where the teacher took overIt was a typical return every day the same monotinous and ever repeating.

Yes, one sister and one brother.
both youngerthan I,however my sister was never far behind when it concerned fun and games.
mother had to go after her at times,well mother had to go after both of us at times.All in all we were not bad kids
she was married young and had children soon after after the death of herhusband piet she became another woman,a person who could come along with the rest of the women society, she traveled and had some joy after her very sober beginning.
but as life goes for all of us there must be an end
Suddenly things had to come to end.therewasno more laughter no more funny statements coming from her lips. she had reached the end of her road and peacefully, hopefully ,she closed her eyes for the lastime to be where we all like to be when the end comes.
May her soul be taken up in heaven where she can rest eternally with the Lord .Personnaly Our prayers be with you all .Have a great life. Please keep in touch A mourning brother and uncle Ko'.

Its a soorrowful day
This morning at 2.50 A.M my sister closed her eyes forthe last time. with most of the children present and visiting her until the very last moment she could not fulfill her wish to be able and do some shopping for herself.she had a good life the past 25 years,and a very tough one before.
Her son- my nephew- called me to inform me of

the bad news.although when one has past the 80 mark there is always the day to come that makes it impossible to go on any longer.
she could not do it anymore
Her lungs had loaded up with fluids and breathing became impossible for her.she will be buried next to her husband in the old town of Dreischor where she was born,lived most of her life,raised her family and in the end died peacefully.
May she be taken up in heaven where the Lord will take care of her for always Our best wishes go to the family left behind.We hope you'll keep in touch with us in this faraway land which she used to call it God bless you all from your brother , uncle Ko

Again Itried to get facebook going, to no avail. what I did get thoughis several messages from friends telling me to get rid of firefox add ons.they seem tobe causing big trouble. In some way i agree. Myself i've had to cope with identity theft and a virus which no one can remove.
what i hopoe for now is that myfriend read this blog and call me at my Email addressI feel sorry for my Indonesian freindshe keeps calling on facebook, so please SRI use the email i send you some time ago andsomehow we continue the conversations this goes for other friends as well

Bad days ahead! !

Yesterday all seemed to go so well.But things can turn for the bad in a hurry. my sister was getting around in her wheelchair, she received a brandnew watch and a new pair of shoes, coz she did not want to be seen ryding around in her old slippers. she was full of enthousiasm about being here while today the docters could not find a way to stop the fluid in her her lungs from accumulating and eventually she will drown in her own fluid.she's within one month of having her 85th birthday.
wheni spoke with her about a month agoshe said ,well, as long as i get to be as old as Dad, i'm satisfied, he was 92 when he died.she is not going to make it.ther's little we can do about not making it its not in our hands to tell how old we wish to become.
all we can do from this point and from afar, is say our fairwell and hope to see you again whenever our time comes .Casey

What is ot a man does when he grows up, or perhaps I should ask myself what it is a man does'nt do before he grows old enough to know better.
we all do things mother does'nt like, she does'nt want to talk about or she tell you father will hear about this no doubt.What she never says,you should notdo this because we taught you differently.
Anyway one cuts it there are usually reasons byond the real reason which will make you wish you'd never started it,or you wished you had started it but never completed the things you did which you should'nt have done had you only listened to you old mother the one and only who knew better then anyone else that you and only you were wrong to do it anyway.
If this seems complicated well thats exactly what it is meant to be.
It my first and maybe my only try at writing without saying anything worthwhile. I truly believe to have succeeded in all aspects. with this last original i shall leave you wondering, not bothering you with any of the details. thank you so much for tagging along Casey.

It was a special day, they ,the two of them had been out all day first to the city to buy someclothing for the summery days and from there to the beach to show the world they had their tan long before it had rained all summer.
He was already in his shorts while she was wearing a dress of some dubious kind. oh, the dress was fine but the colour was so mixed up it looked as if the material had been put through the wringer be fore it was made into clothing for the female genre.
I hope, he grinned. your undies are made of diffrent colour then this here piece of clothing, he said pointing at her in general. she looked a bit out of sort but knowing himesshe kept quiet It always pays to keep ones mouth shut when the going is getting bad. she knew this all too well. your shirt does not look the 100% its cracked up to be either she mellowy murmered as they wandered up the hill towards the place where they had parked their car.He laughed .well you picked it for me he grinned it was'nt of my doing Daisy. they wenton and on the way home neither spoke a word Once inside the house she stopped ;pulling up her dress she showed him the undies he remarked earlier. you see Frank it is a different kind and colour as you imagined.and it was, the pink redish sort of string she was wearing did not have any of the colouring her dress showed. now can we see what you're wearing my dear boy' he did'nt say anything but throwing down the towels and the blanket he suddenly dropped his trousers and there it was. she laughed and making a grab for it he quickly disappeared into the washroom where he got properly dressed. there were no more words spilled . He had his fill of it and she did'nt want to bug him about it.

A few minutes ago I received an E Mail from the relatives in the Netherlands regarding my sisters well being.
so, momentarily she is resting in a home in Zierikzee close to where she has her home, and is doing quite well although there are still things to be added to her life as a human being According to the mail she was talking and she's eating and sleeping well her foot which was quite badly affected by the stoke is getting better and her arm to, but her mouth is still a bit slanted but according to her self opinion everything shall workout for the better.
lucky for her she is a strong minded person who has learned to be stronger yet over the years.we all hope for the best for her.My brother is'nt getting much better yet.still not talking but he does have interest in what happens ariound him and when he received the letter from all of ushe was quite moved emotionally.I spoke to his wife- my sister in law for an extended time she keeps me posted on whatever happens to either of the two.
Well the old saying of "Its difficult to get old gracefully" is still intact!

This morning i finally had one of my relatives in the Netherlands on the line. My nephew Jan visiting his mother- mysister- whois recovering from a heat failure in a rehabilitation home The situation with the old lady seems to have improved and she is now staying at this home to get treatment. Its always nice to hear that alive is much to the advantage rather than death which is just about the last thing one wants to hear.
My brother does not do to well he is going to a home as well but can't do anything for himself My sister inlaw seems to get along fairly well without him pestering her so all together we are in a limbo which may turn out to be a joy. i hope they both will be with us for some time although they are 82 -85 years old.
Myself i have been spared for the time being. luckely, knock on wood.which i have done just now rap on the top of the head.
well this is it for today,no more bad news please.

good news usually's followed by bad news. In this-my-case its bad following the bad. 2 weeks ago it was my brother having a stroke, now its my sister having a heart attack, or rather a brain seasure.
it does'nt rain but it poors never a let up.but when one is over 80 years of age there are sudden changes in the body formation that makes it impossible to go on as before. so,we must prepare ourself for these thing, and when they happen it is not as difficult to accept those.
My sister seems to be a little better then my brother who is still in hospital but soon to be moved to a rehabilitation center where teachers will try toget him to talk again.. Myself i am just fine thank you, sofar no problems have occurred and no diseases or ailments have shown up.
Lets hope that life will treat me gently and give it some time before it all stops and that goes for my brother and sister to.

One trip to the moluccas and the whole outlook on indonesia changed for the better.But how come people in this region are so different from what we have seen sofar was the question many of us asked ourselves.True enough there were pockets amongst those islands thatstill had the japanese flag flying in 1947 when the war with japan had been over for more then 2years, but on the whole most peoople seem to know what was goimg on in the world. we visited many of the smaller places in the archipelago and where ever we landed there was joy and jubilation. We have 'nt seen a dutch ship this one old policeman told us for the past 5 years and now we know we are still and again the same as we were before.but no change does not always mean better! we knew a change had to come the days of colonialism had come to an end and self government was eminent for the country that had been ruled by the whiteman for 300 years. the white man never had the right to make slaves out of free people but they did. my grandfather who had been in the region 60 years before i came to visit thought it was the whiteman who brought civilisation to these parts of the world Very mistakingly he said these countries are incabable to rule themselves. But rule they can and even if things are being done different then we do them in our countries learn they will and in the end- perhaps in 100 years they will catch up to us and proceed to surpass us ineconomic welfare.We must not only give them time but its our duty to assist and help pursue the welfare of nations who are stuggling with economic inbalance.So lets not hang back and watch but rather reach out and invigorate so that all who have give part of their welfare to the ones who have not.Let it make no difference what name this land carries but let us carry our good name to them to succeed and live well. My uncle was born on the island of saparuahlocated south of ambon. he was a quiet well educated man who tried hard to extract all the information he could fronm every dutch boy- and there was many of them around at the time, including myself thuis man wanted to find out all he could about the netherlands.my aunt quietly listened while the kids helped dadwith the inquiries.I told them as much as I could in the short time i had with them.
luckely i had two visits with them before being shipped back to my homeland. it was the last time i saw my uncle he died young but as luck had dit he was stationed on the island of Ambon in 1948 and died there some 6 yearslater. my aunt did come back to holland and lived out her life to the utmost. i believe she was 93 when thelord took her from her family to go to her favorite man who ,no doubt had been waiting for her.My cousin also moved back to the netherlands but her brother stayed in his country where he married a school year sweetheart.they moved to jakarta where his wife contracted lukemia and died ,he also had the disease and died veral years later they both remain in jakarta forever.My aunt lies in holland her husband in Ambon my female cousin is still alive not well but remains in holland.I have only seen them twice since my move to Canada, however we remain family for always

I was 2.5 years of age. i remember my aunt coming to visit us before leaving for indonesia.
shewas wearing her white uniform and i distinctly noticed her cap white with a red cross embedded .because mygrand parents did'nt live too far away from our house she had walked and as she left mother holding my hand was standing on the grass facing the road to wave her good bye. becaus mom told me your aunt is not coming back for a long time.
how true this was.
some 22 years later we met again.I was now 24 she was an old lady who had suffered the indignities of camp life under the japanese for a coule of years. my uncle whom i had never met was a surgeon in the local hospital in the city of Malang (IND) He had like my aunt received a goernment loan to study to become a docter and together they had worked in several almost uninhabitable places on the uisland of sumatra before moving to Kediri on Java. for many years they stayed there on the foot of the kelut vulcano
than around 1940 they received word to come to surabaja where he bought a large house and worked in the hospital therefor about 2 years. when all hell broke loose and the japs came to occupy the country they were moved back to Malang where camp life took up most ot their time. but uncle Thomas was a docter and had to work while his wife and kids suffered in different camps. my aunt and her daughter in one camp while my cousin Tonny was with the boys in another one. my uncle was allowed to see his family once every two weeks.when I met the family they had just come out of the camp and were back in a house the japs were gone and the indonesians were trying hard to take their country back from imperial holland.

when one gets more mature and older life has many anecdotes to absorb and even more stories are hidden somewhere in the background of the mind.
I have a few of them,some I have told ,many are still hidden in that attic of the mind.you may not agree but the mind dus have an attic, it also has a basement. now for the people who have houses build above ground- the basement is a cellar below the mainfloor, while the attic is -usually unused part way up above the topfloor of the house.
the human dody does not entirely compare to the everyday abode, but it does have an attic. its the spot where most of us carry the brain-I'm probably exepted- mans lower parts are extensively his/hers own.nothin more said about it, for the moment.
so, getting back to old stories and remembering incidents,I can remember things, only a few mind you, from as far back when i was 2 years old. Then after that period ended there's a blank space some 6 years everything went dark. At the age of 10 something extremely bad happened -later- we're now at 14 years of age and all's well.
there was work to be done and the the place to eccel. From 4:30 in the morning til seven at night i slaved beside my dad and mom trying to make a living from items good enough to get other farmers rich- never to forget-Well, sofar we have'nttouched on anything concrete, don't worry we will the next page will give all of you a brightly blinking lite whichget us all there .

On these days I am going to see whats happening at the local beaches. We have a very dry and even tempered climate in this part of the country. winters are usually mild -exeption 2009- and summers hot and dry.
so, there are a great number of people going to the beaches here. When school goes out in the middle of june there are kids all over the place roads are the biggest offenders for traffic and the children are to be expected to use those in order toget where they want to go.
Cars are also offenders while trying to be less offensive we do not always lookout for pedestrians resulting in sometimes fatal accidents.
T o avoid this there are rules and laws to be followed and adhered to and we do submit to all of them sometimes forgetting most times attentively submitting.this goes on til september when the school year begins.The summers are ours to enjoy the winters are for the young to go skiing and sledding and whatever else one can do during the colder period of the year.however the sunny days we'll take with us dreaming of the new ones ahead.never forgetting we were young once.

what do people expect to accomplish on a rainy day?
Is this a good question?
If so well, I'll tell you what I myself go on those kind of days!Inside my basement I have 8 machines somewhat anchored to the concrete floor. they are nothing big neither are these machines the smallest.
One thing though they are there for my convenience. And when needed i'll use them.Ihave made cabinets , wagons chairs and every other item needed to assist me in my efforts to live a little easier in my old age.
sometimes i succeed to accomplish all my efforts exceedingly well other times its a throw away but this is to be expected from an inexperienced tradesman.
I am telling you this so you wont be disappointed when i send you a christmas gift made with my own hands.
this i wanted to tell you and at the same time warn my good friends, so you will not be surprised and diappointed when a large crate arrives at you door the day before the end of the year when santa is rigging up his sled to visit us .Well to make an end to this story, those are some of the things I do ona rainy day ,thank you.

well, yes, there days and weeks and 5 years of this life when steeling was a must , not a sin , not even an offence. you had to syteal in order to eat , one had to steal inorder to survive. At first it was food, later ithis became food and clothing. there were no tires avalable for our bikes we added pieces of old throawa tires to the worn out one we had rode on for the past years.When this was made impossible due to the lack ofmaterials we had to steal tires from German bikes which was dagerous, because the kraut had a weapon to shoot us. And shoot they did, but they were badly aimed shots i suppose coz they never hit me.
One night after a visit to the butcher shop my friend and i were surprised by the butt of a rifflein the hannds of a german soldier, he was scared and angry, very dangerous. but he let us go taken our papers away we did not go home because we knew some other outfit by the name of S.S was to follow which could lead us straight to a place called dachau.so we took a rowboat and moored it on the nearest boy in midriver Around 10 we heard the noise comi ng from the Eastand yes sir.

, it was the kriegsmarine and there schnell bote they came close but did not see us, happily we wen to sleepunti about 4 am when they came back from a tour of destruction agaist the british fleet no doubt. so close they were and so fast those rotten wooden things rushed by our hiding place we could see them standing on deck, again they did not see us and as luck would have it the S.S must have been busy elsewhere because they never showed up to collect us either

When I gave my friends and every one else who is reading my blog the impression that things and life as a whole were bad during the war years with the hitlerites, was only a mild example of what really was going on in the occupied countries of Europe during the years 1938 -1945.
while we coped with the germans there were russian troops all over the easteren parts of europe, but i can only relate to the west of course.
when thing were quiet for a few days,sometimes weeks,one could expect something fierce was going to happen pretty soon. they were planning of course we did plan as well, although ours did not always work out right because the germans had the power and the armed forces to contain the meager efforts we were to supply.
however there was nearly always a way out.It happened one night when the Gestapo came to visit our town.nearly all boys in hiding escaped to the countryside where we fund refuge in a barn in a boat or simply in a field.this time imyself plus two other friend could not find a spot in time, and we had to satisfy ourself with a place in the reeds. the mud was sosoft that within 15 minutes we stood up to our knees and within the hour we were only half visible.and still the guards wandered up and down the narrow road in front of us. afraid of the morning sun coming up soon we tried to move further into the reed field which was only clear muddy water.just before dawn the buggers went away and safety was ours again. when we came home that morning my mother cried for two reasons she said later. you came home in one piece and for the stinky smelly clothes you brought home.

no this was not the day for the federal government tofll prey to the opposition.thinking about earlier days and governments, there was the days we did'nt have aq ruler at all, wello with the exeption of the hitler regime.It all seems long ago and fAR AWAY, sometimes those days are being refreshed with the arrival of a letter from a former government official.
this happened to me some weeks hence when a very offical looking piece of mail was dropped in my mailbox.
the sender was the head of the pension funding in the netherlands. for years i have been in contact eith those people,all to no avail.
I suppose when one changes citizenship one looses all rights he had to monies collected for him by his former nation. again there was the note -thishas become very common- you do not have any rights to this pension. what you did and have done during the war years was no more than you duty as a citizen.It sounds all very official and cold to me.
you see these people were'nt even around when i was hiding from hitlers S,S. and gestapo. they were not with me when hunger was gnawing on the 19 year old body,they were not there when i slept in open boats moored to a bouy on the river, neither were they there when shots rang out and the pieces of stone embedded itself in the back of my legg and this happened more then once during the long years of occupation thse people were not born yet when the kraut inundated the land we had farmed for centuries.nor were those people witness to the attrocities invoked upon every one of us who did not want to hear their lousy songs or the cobnailed booths tromping over our landIts not an easy task to talk about those days when people, good people were being lined up for absolutely no good reason to be shot and left to us to burry them with some dignity many of us who fought our battles on the right side of that war are angry and dismayed, stunned by the remarks made by them who never knew the war years the razzias the concentrationcamps,the days of hunger and starvation Iwas born and raised there and out of pure love and patriotismI did what was needed to help bring about an end to the slaughter of innocent people and I am extremely glad I did I could not have done it any other way.

all's well here but this part of the world is still having problems with coolish weather.
i should not complain , pretty soon the temperature starts to rise and we'll be in the high 30s again. and then you'll hear those prairy dog haul- those are the people from winnipeg west all the way to calgary.
this afternoon i was scrounging thru my blogs and in trying to extract some information from whatever source I can get. many names of people whom i have never met before showed up. now i have nothing against being contacted and it happens quite often but this time there were the names of some very important people - don'treally know if I should devulge your names to the world,. P{erhaps i'll wait until i get another little message from the far easteren shores of russia and the ukraine.

looking thru my blog receipts, i noticed a number of replies from friends in europe, especially in Russia and the Ukraine.
I am going to try to contact all you people,however please be advised that this old man has very little experience on a computer, which means, you still may have to wait a little longer.
Meanwhile my gratitude to you for reading my scribbles. at one time during my life i was capable of writing a story, but this has diminnshed and is gone down to a little rambling.
you know how it is, one always believes to be as great as yesterday, the reality of it is very untrue,which borders on a lie in the sense of, wanting to tell the truth,but being unable to do so due to the aging process.
no, i'm not ashamed neither am I afraid to say it.
so, please don't blame me for making the odd mistake, or for not putting the comma's and periods at the right place,i'm only a transplanted canadian,one who had to work instead of going to school I have tried to keep up with the jonesess in whatever way i have been able.

There's no better eway to spend the day then in a court of law,At least that s what one of my friends told me.
for me it is a waste of time, for all the cost of attorneys and judges are mostly and usually so high they exceede thre original costs by leaps and bounds.
so early this morning I arrived at the appointed spot where things were supposed to happen. After sitting on a very soft but uneasy bench i finally had my say.the attorney for the defence first,followed by the ome for the plaintiff The judge who had been staring in the fces of both these men was already waiting for supper,but could not go away because there was a time limit set on the procedures.
As it turned out we all had a go at the same person -for no reason other then getting money out of I.C.B.C the judge was satisfied there were no more complainants at the ready so- with one gesture of her right arm she closed the case and went home.- this closes my recent experience with the Kelowna court system. And what do Isay..............
Only one simple word HOORAY ! !

I just returned from my coffeebreak in the local mall.
While sitting there a girl I had met before showed up. cup in hand she asked if there was enough room for both of us on the table. Before I had an answer ready she plunket down and began to talk. I want to how you something she started, while fumbling around in her bag of tricks, she dug up a parcel containing three of the smallest thongs
i have ever seen-and i have seen some before-.
Here than she said are the strings we are going to wear this coming summer.when she mentioned strings thats exactly what she meant, there was this shoelace type fumbled up buch of some bueish, reddish and pink string attachement being deposited in front for me to examine I suppose.with some careful moves I rearranged the bundle til it showed just one of eachas i've said earlier shoelace type of what she calls, this summers beachwear. Well, I said if this is what you're going to pull over your pussy i am coming to your parts of the beach to take a look,she nods and answers rightaway, i'll be parking my ass-her words- on strathcona beach where all the action will be this coming summer,I think she meant Gyro bech,because thats where things usually happen to most of the girls.

Quietly the daybegan to unfold.
it amazes me how many days go by in silence before something really exciting come about. like last week was a week not to forget at any time soon but i don't wish to go into that momentarily
there are more important things happening every day especially when you are a retired male peronality.
yesterday for example,there was this turtle -imagine the,temperature in the minus column- and this beast is out and about crawling his way accross the mainroad,I barely missed it swerving quickly to the left side crossing the centerline, luckely no cars approaching from the other side.
This morning was much better.Still a bit cool though,but managable.Tomorrow be better yet the weatherman tells us

well in my case the bad news that sopposedly was going to get me did not reach this address for three days. my brother had been in the hospital for three days when i finally did get the message.
It was the day before my birthday january the 12 th when my sister in law called to tell me Leen had a stroke in which his right side had been paralized. He can't talk or move or do anything ,just lying in bed looking at the ceiling,
But now the 14 the of jan he is eating a little.my sister trie s hard to help him and with the assistance of his son and his wife he is gettingthe very best care people can afford.
The docter was at the scene very quickly and the ambulance shortly there after.actually he was on his way to the hospital within 10 minutes
my brother and i and all of us had some great times while visiting here in canada.He was telling some of our friends last summer it was the 11th time he had come to see us after this attack it may have been his last visit there were other times when we were young and careless, not knowing where to go or what to do when things got out of hand at times. he was there and together we faced the challenges.
